NRSWA Novice Signing, Lighting & Guarding - Inexperienced Operatives (O1)

Course Overview: Signing, Lighting & Guarding (NRSWA) This practical and engaging course is designed to give inexperienced operatives the confidence and competence to safely set out temporary traffic management in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA). Participants will learn how to implement effective Signing, Lighting, and Guarding measures to protect themselves, their team, and the public. The course covers the setup of safety zones, pedestrian walkways, traffic lanes, temporary signals, and Stop/Go systems. Assessment: Knowledge and practical skills are assessed through a multiple-choice exam and hands-on demonstration. A minimum pass mark of 80% is required to successfully complete the course.

About This Course

Course Overview: Signing, Lighting & Guarding (NRSWA)

 

The candidate must be able to:

  • Carry out an on-site risk assessment to identify hazards and risks with the intended site.
  • State the action required to Minimise risk and ensure a safe system of work.
  • Provide a detailed plan for an intended site, showing all distances and dimensions in accordance with the Safety at Street Works and Road Works Code of Practice.
  • Provide an equipment list for the intended site.
  • Select and confirm suitability of equipment.
  • Set out advance warning signs, safety zones, traffic lanes, temporary traffic lights and pedestrian walkways in a specified sequence.
  • Demonstrate the testing, alteration of timings and commissioning temporary traffic signals.
  • Set out and remove provision for Stop/Go traffic control.
  • Remove temporary traffic management in a specified sequence.
  • Demonstrate use of personal protective equipment and good working practices in the setting out and taking down of temporary traffic management.
